Beginning Again: Opening Day and Other Tales
Mason County author and newspaper columnist Sam Bevard will be at the Robertson County Public Library, Mt Olivet, Kentucky for a signing and reading of his book, Beginning Again: Opening Day and Other Tales, at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007.
Sam Bevard has written an outdoor column for the Maysville Ledger-Independent for six years, publishing almost 300 essays, features and stories in this venue. His first book is a collection of both stories featured in the column over the years and new material never before in print. His writing reflects outdoor adventures and themes, as well as events and experiences common to life in Northeastern Kentucky.
He is a life-long resident of Cabin Creek, having grown up in what was the Ohio River village of Springdale at the mouth of Cabin Creek. One of his passions to keep alive the memory of that lost hamlet. He is a graduate of Morehead State University, where he majored in history and English, completing an M.A. degree in English. After teaching for two years in Ohio, he served 30 years as a Kentucky State Probation and Parole Officer, retiring in 2002. He now devotes his time to hunting, fishing, church work, tree planting, and wildlife habitat conservation.
He and his wife, the former Ruvonna Bays, a Carter County native who is an artist, and who both illustrated and did the cover art for Beginning Again, live on a farm on Owl Hollow with their two sons, Aaron and Seth.
